Petition: Bring Coal Ash Hearing to Louisville, KY
Toxic ash left over from burning coal contaminates our rivers and drinking water with cancer causing carcinogens. Illinois has more contaminated sites from the improper disposal of coal ash than any other state. After decades of fighting to get this waste regulated as the hazardous material it is, we are now close to a resolution.
The people of Illinois need your help. Please sign this VERY important petition to make sure the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) hears from the many southern Illinois residents whose waters are contaminated by toxic coal ash waste.

By signing this petition, we are requesting that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency hold a public hearing on its recent proposal for Disposal of Coal Combustion Residuals from Electric Utilities (EPA-HQ-RCRA-2009-0640) in Louisville, KY in a location which is easily accessible to local, suburban and regional transit, during the public comment period for the proposed rule.
The EPA should hold a hearing in Louisville, KY in order to receive comments from the communities most directly affected by coal combustion residue disposal. We also request this hearing occur from 9 am until 8 pm, in order to accommodate the many people who will want to attend either before or after work hours.
